A little about Myself
Hi I am Chee Foong Kim. Most of my friends call me Foong Kim or Kim.
As a Floral Design Specialist I am passionate about floral arrangements for all occasions and creating kids’ friendly floral arrangement lessons. I am also a work at home mum since 2013 when my eldest daughter was born. I graduated with a degree in electronic engineering and I have been in the semiconductor industry for more than 15 years. I love reading self-improvement books and some of my favourite authors are Gretchen Rubin and Mitch Albom. I am passionate about yoga and, starting this year, I enjoy a daily 30 minute morning run while listening to my audio books. I prefer a vegetarian diet whenever I can.
My Motherhood Journey
I have two beautiful young daughters. My motherhood journey began in 2013. I was coping fine with the help of my in-laws and parents. However, when I had my second baby in 2016, things got a little out of hand. I was struggling to help my eldest cope with her growing emotions and my young baby who needed me both emotionally and physically. Most of the time I am on my own. My husband constantly works late or travels for business. I was not coping well as I had to juggle between my work and the kids (yes, I am still struggling, but getting better at it every day ☺).
It was difficult for people around me to understand my difficulties, including my close friends as most of them are work at home mums. During this period, I started on Facebook a work at home mothers’ support group, connecting mothers with similar struggles.
My passion for Flowers Arrangement
When I was dating my husband, I was never satisfied with the flower bouquets that he gave me during special occasions. I constantly felt the flower arrangement could be better or I would have done different combinations of colours.
In 2008, before Valentine’s Day, a friend suggested that we try to sell something to earn some pocket money. I was excited with the suggestion as the first thing in my mind was to sell flower bouquets. We managed to source flowers and materials and got some orders. After that experience, I knew that I wanted to upgrade my skills as I was unhappy with most of the bouquets and arrangements I did for Valentine’s Day. I knew that somehow I could have made them better.
In 2009 I had the chance to undergo training to become a professional florist when my full-time job was having a down turn. I was only working 3 days a week and was on unpaid leave. I took the opportunity to enrol in a professional florist’s course.
Since then, I had an online florist shop until 2016 when I decided to take a break to dedicate my time to my two young daughters.
However, in 2018, I decided to again pursue my passion for flower arrangements when I saw my daughters enjoy doing flower arrangements with me. As I am coping better with my two girls now, I all over again found great pleasure and excitement in doing flower arrangements.
